• Where it’s at

I started drawing rocky island seastacks in response to a group exhibition about religion; it started a heavy jag into many kinds of theosophy, shamanism, afrofuturism, animism, shingon buddhism, deism, theism, pandeism, pantheism etc etc.

There are a lot of isms out there. I think I like pantheism best.

At different moments the seastacks have come to represent us, our little place in the big scheme, that innate lifeness that keeps the moss clinging on; at others they’ve represented Brexit, the curve, nativism, performative isolation, the deadening nuancelessness of the internet, our own lonely atomisation.

The precarious present.

Whatever we are, teetering on the brink of the sublime for 200 million years or so, 3 or 4 billion years if we include viruses (if we’ve learned anything over these past few years, we definitely should).

Deep time. Right now. Where it’s at.
